¡Hola! My name is Sandy Smolenski, and I am so honored to be teaching 7th and 8th grade Spanish at Culver School!
This is my eighth year teaching after earning my Masters in Teaching at National-Louis University with middle school endorsements in Language Arts, Spanish, Math and Social Studies. My prior teaching experience includes 2 years in Deerfield District 109, 1 year in Wood Dale District 7 and long-term sub positions in Glenview District 34 and Northbrook District 30. In these positions, I gained experience teaching 6th grade Math, 8th grade Language Arts, 1st and 4th grades, Math and Language Arts interventions, English and bilingual gifted and enrichment instruction, STEAM lab and library management. My student teaching was completed in Mount Prospect District 57 where I was a substitute teacher for 12 years. I have also been a dance teacher for over 13 years teaching tap, jazz, ballet and hip hop to dancers from preschoolers to senior citizens. Teaching is a passion of mine and I want to help shape my students into future leaders. Prior to entering education, I had a 10+ year career in Public Relations, Marketing and Advertising at Sears Headquarters. I have a BS in Advertising with a Minor in Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign I also worked as a professional wedding photographer, and I taught middle school photography classes in summer school in Mount Prospect for several years. I hope to bring some of my experiences into my teaching to enhance the learning experience. I have been married for over twenty years to my husband, Mike. We have two adult daughters. |
